Quite often we need to repair skylights long before you need a whole new roof. There are various reasons why your skylight may be leaking. Since skylights are often located in very high ceilings it is difficult to tell exactly what the problem is or where the leak originates. Even if you dare to climb up on your roof to try to check it out you may not be able to determine the problem.

Finding Roof Leaks near your Skylights

Leaking skylights can be caused by damaged or dried out caulking, faulty installation, or flashing that was improperly installed. If the shingles around the skylight are damaged it could be letting the rain in near the skylight. Even if the damage is not right at the skylight the rain may find the closest place to enter and that could very likely be your skylight.

In the winter snow and ice can build up around the skylight and cause water to seep into your home through the skylight. This is a common problem we see during the winter months.

At the first sign of your ceiling being stained or worse yet water dripping down you will need to immediately take action to get your leak fixed before damage becomes even worse and more costly. Roofing Shingles Delivered

We like to have the shingles delivered before the day of starting the roofing job. Arrangements were easily made with our customer to get the shingles delivered on the roof before our roofing crew arrived to get the job done.

Access to the Driveway and House

When our crew arrived at the home all their vehicles were already moved out of the driveway and parked down the street. Our trucks were able to access the driveway and get all our needed equipment and vehicles right where they needed to be. Don’t forget to get your cars out of the garage! You don’t want to be trapped in your own garage!

Roofing Jobs can be Dangerous for Kids to be Around

This particular family had three small children. I met the kids when I went to give them their free roofing estimate. Great kids – and of course very active. When we arrived at their house to tear off their roof and install a new roof everyone came outside. Mom, Dad, and all the kids said hello to our crew and even joked around a little.

However, in just a few minutes Mom made sure the kids went inside. We love kids – but roofing can be a dangerous job – and its no place to have children around. Falling debris and nails in the landscaping could definitely hurt the kids. All their kids periodically watched us by looking out the windows. They would wave too. It was pretty cute and put some smiles on our hard working crew.

Here’s a special thanks to Mom for keeping the kids inside! Summer days usually mean playing outside but these youngsters were kept inside safe and sound. Our access to the roof was made easy and we were in and out with everything cleaned up – even better than when we got there.

Having to replace drywall and ceilings is a costly expense – and then you have to deal with getting it all painted to match your existing paint! There are several things to look for to catch your roofing problems before they cost you even more money.

Things to look for in determining if you need a new roof:

1. Your shingles are curling at the edges.
2. There is mold and algae on your roof.
3. You find bits of shingles on the ground after a windy day.
4. The paint on the wood or area around your roof is peeling or flaking.
5. Your roof is over 15 or 20 years old.
6. Your gutters have a lot of shingle granules in them You can also visually check the shingles to see if the granules are wearing off.
7. Your shingles appear blistered.
8. Your shingles are buckling. This can be caused by improperly installed felt under the shingles or your roof deck is rotting.
9. Sagging roof deck between the rafters.
10. Water stains in your attic. Look for dark spots – especially around chimneys and vents.

We’ve also heard of several instances when a well-planned roofing repair by the homeowner went bad when they actually fell off the roof. Even roofs that don’t appear to be steep can easily let you slip and fall. It’s not a place for the inexperienced.
